The Faculty of Economics, Mulawarman University, Samarinda, was founded in 1962, which was originally known as the Faculty of State Administration and Administration.
Then on May 4, 1966 based on the Decree of the Minister of PTIP No. 12 of 1966, the Faculty of Economics was established which was the development of the Faculty of State Administration and Administration. In 2015 it was transformed into the Faculty of Economics and Business. In its journey, the Faculty of Economics, Unmul opened several programs as follows:
1.In 1974 the Faculty of Economics was opened for Balikpapan class and Extension Class which were closed together in 1982.
2. In 1982, the Company Administration Expert Education program (PAAP) was opened which was renamed the Diploma III Accounting program in 1985.
3. In 1977, the Accounting Department was opened, followed by the opening of the Accounting Transfer Program which accommodates Diploma III Accounting graduates to go to the undergraduate level.
4. In 1988 the opening of the S1 Management and S1 Development Economics study programs as well as the undergraduate completion program for baccalaureate and diploma III.
5. Opening the Master of Management Program through coaching and collaboration with Airlangga University.
6. Opened the Master of Science Program in Economics in collaboration with the Postgraduate program at Hasanuddin University in March 2000.
7. Opened Doctoral Program in Management Science and Doctoral Program in Economics in November 2011.
8. Opening English Language Class in S1-Management Study Program in 2019.
9. Opening Master of Accounting Program in 2020.
